Two members of our team have been invited to speak at the First Global Conference of the Platform for Collaboration on Tax (PCT), a joint initiative of the World Bank, IMF, OECD, and the UN. The conference, on the theme “Taxation and the Sustainable Development Goals” will take place at the UN headquarters in New York City from February 14-16th.
ICTD Research Director Dr Wilson Prichard will chair the session titled “DRM and State Building: Taxation for Better Governance.” He has conducted extensive research on this topic, authoring the book Taxation, Responsiveness and Accountability in Sub-Saharan Africa. For a useful overview of the issues, see our summary brief: What have we learned about taxation, statebuilding and accountability?
ICTD Capacity Building Manager Dr Jalia Kangave, who also leads our research programme on gender and tax, will be a panellist in the session “Smarter Taxation for Better Gender Equality.” Read our summary brief “Tax and Gender in Developing Countries: What are the Issues?” See also Jalia’s blog on the topic: Tax Justice for Women’s Rights: the Real Issues in Developing Countries.
