This ICTD Research in Brief is a two-page summary of ICTD Working Paper 23 by Wilson Prichard, Paola Salardi and Paul Segal. This series is aimed at policy makers, tax administrators, fellow researchers and anyone else who is big on interest and short on time. This paper finds support for the existence of a political resource curse It draws on improved quality data from the International Centre for Tax and Development’s Government Revenue Dataset (ICTD GRD) to re-examine existing econometric tests and significantly improve their robustness.

Wilson Prichard

Wilson Prichard is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, Chair of the Local Government Revenue Initiative (LoGRI) and former Executive Officer of the International Centre for Tax and Development (2020-2024). His research focuses on the relationship between taxation and citizen demands for improved governance in Africa.
