NTRN grantee Dr Abdulsalam Mas’ud participated in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum‘s (NGF) Internally Generated Revenue Peer Learning Event ‘The Imperative of Taxpayer Compliance in Financing the Future’ held at Wells Carlton Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria.

Dr Mark Abani led a session focusing on “Building a Taxpayer-centric service & Strengthening the Fiscal Social Contract” with the Commissioners of Finance and the Chairmen of States’ Internal Revenue Services. During the session, Dr Mas’ud presented the findings from his paper “Acceptability of e-filing of Taxes among micro entrepreneurs in Northwestern Nigeria“. One of the main points of discussion was a move towards a bilingual e-tax filing system, available in both English and Hausa. This would be especially beneficial for taxpayers in Northwestern Nigeria, where there are lower literacy rates. He also called for states to ensure the e-filing system would be reliable, and to raise awareness of it among micro entrepreneurs.

The NTRN thank Dr Mark Abani, David Nabena and the NGF team for the opportunity and look forward to further engagement in the future.
