The Nigerian Tax Research Network (NTRN) was invited to speak at the Tax Club at Obafemi Awolowo University of Ife (OAU). The OAU Tax Club is known to host the “Tax 180,” a platform for tax clubs across Nigeria. On September 24th, the club organised a “Tax Incubator” event with NTRN Coordinator, Michael Falade. A total of 85 students and young researchers participated in the event.
Michael’s presented various opportunities and resources offered by the NTRN. Students were encouraged to use the resources from the NTRN online library and data from the NESG Tax Payer Perception Survey. He explained the procedure for accessing research grants and advised participants to consider policy relevance, rigorous research methods, and value for money when submitting research proposals. He also shared the date of the 3rd NTRN annual conference, which is scheduled for December 5th-6th at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Training School in Abuja, Nigeria.
Michael shared over 100 copies of ICTD publications including three from NTRN grantees on Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) in Nigeria, Acceptability of e-filing of Taxes by Small Businesses, and Small Businesses & Corporate Tax Responsibility in Nigeria and a copy of the book Taxing Africa for their Tax Library.
