The inaugural conference of the African Property Tax Initiative was hosted in Dakar on June 11-12th. The Secretary General of the Senegalese Ministry of Finance and the ICTD’s Research Director Wilson Prichard (who chairs the initiative) were interwieved by Dakaractu about the rationale and objectives of the conference.

Kenyan Media Notes APTI Participation to ATRN
Three Kenyan media outlets, namely the Kenya News Agency, All Africa, and The Star have noted the distinguished participation of team members of the African Property Tax Initiative (APTI) to the 6th African Tax Research Network (ATRN) conference themed ‘Maximizing the Revenue Potential of Property Taxes through Digitization’ and organized by the African Tax Administration Forum .
The Kenya News Agency highlights “The African Property Tax Initiative established in 2017 by the International Centre for Tax and Development states that property taxes have a great potential to constitute a mainstay revenue stream for African Countries when properly harnessed.”
ICTD mentioned in The Economist podcast
On July 2nd, The Economist’s podcast The Intelligence spoke about Freetown’s new property tax system which will raise up to 5x more revenue in a fairer way. The city received technical support from the ICTD and the International Growth Centre (IGC), and aid from the UK government. Read The Economist article about it here.
