Randomised controlled trials is a method that comes with strengths and weaknesses. Especially in theory-based evaluations of complex programmes, the method is often considered as inappropriate.

Giulia Mascagni will reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the method for causal inference, the ethics of randomisations, and the challenges of measuring complex change processes. She has used RCTs to evaluate the effectiveness of different message contents and delivery methods in increasing tax compliance in Rwanda.

This webinar is part of the Centre for Development Impact series on methods for theory-based evaluation
