The Nigerian Tax Research Network (NTRN) is pleased to invite members to it’s 2019 meeting on December 5th and 6th at the FIRS Training School in Abuja. This event is hosted in partnership with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The conference seeks to bring together stakeholders and showcase the best current research on the pressing challenges of taxation and revenue in Nigeria today, exchange ideas, and begin conversations.

The overarching theme of the two-day event is ‘Revenue challenges online and offline: Bridging the digital divide in an analogue economy’. The introduction to the conference theme will be made by Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, former head of FIRS and Chair of the NTRN, and Dr Babatunde Fowler, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, will give the opening remarks.

There will be a University Tax Club debate, and five research and policy panels on themes including international taxation and e-commerce, tax burdens and economic growth, and legitimacy, fairness and reciprocity in the tax system. A delegation from the Ethiopian Tax Research Network will also participate in the conference, in order to share insights and lessons. See the full conference programme here.

Only selected presenters and panel chairs will be provided with support for travel and accommodation if coming from outside Abuja. However, if you are interested in attending the event as a non-presenter and/or have independent support you are welcome to do so. If you have any questions, please contact the organisers at [email protected]
