ICTD CEO Mick Moore was invited to speak at a book launch for “Taxing Africa: Coercion, Reform and Development” in Hargeisa, Somaliland on 1st November.

The event, titled “Taxation and Statebuilding – Should Somaliland Love Taxes?” was organised by the Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan Ismail (pictured above with Mick Moore) with support from Oxford Policy Management‘s Somaliland Prosperity from Revenue (PROFR) programme. The Director General, along with the Economic Advisor to the President, Dr. Osman Sheikh Ahmed, spoke at the event alongside Mick Moore. Also in attendance was the Minister of Investment Promotion, Awad Mohamed Ahmed Mohamoud.

The wide-ranging discussion that followed the presentations focused on equity and fairness, and the light taxes paid by large companies in Somaliland. Over 100 people attended the event.
