ICTD’s Vanessa van den Boogaard presents at CSW
ICTD Research Fellow Vanessa van den Boogaard participated in the Commission on the Status of Women’s sixty-third session at the United Nations in New York (#CSW63). She spoke on the NGO forum panel “Taxing for Gender Equality,” on March 15th alongside Yamini Mishra, Nguyen Phuong Thuy, Francesca Rhodes, Kathleen Lahey, Caroline Othim, Isolde Kunkel-Weber, and Corina Rodriguez Enriquez. The panel, which explored the gendered impacts of tax systems, was organised by Queen’s University, the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GA4TJ), the Tax Justice Network (TJN), and Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN). See the event poster here.
She presented her research from Sierra Leone, arguing that user fees and informal taxes should be taken into account in order to understand the real fiscal burdens borne by men and women in accessing local public goods and services. Read the full working paper here, and view her presentation below:
