The Nigerian Tax Research Network is pleased to invite submissions for research-based presentations at its inaugural workshop and conference to be held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, 12th-14th September 2017.

With funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the ICTD is launching the Nigerian Tax Research Network (NTRN) to support the generation and exchange of tax knowledge in Nigeria, with stakeholders including tax practitioners and researchers from Nigerian and international organisations.

The NTRN launch event seeks to bring together researchers and professionals to showcase the best current research on the pressing challenges of taxation and revenue in Nigeria today, to exchange ideas and begin conversations. Submissions are sought from a wide variety of researchers whether academics, tax professionals, social research groups and NGOs, or independent scholars.

The overall theme addresses ‘Revenue Beyond Oil Reliance’.

Within that, paper submissions may cover any aspect of research related to taxation and revenue in Nigeria; thus fields might range from administration to social impact, from international taxation to informal taxes and fees, from natural resource taxes to e-commerce, and from Federal to State to Local Government levels, from revenue maximisation to wider economic and governance implications.

We also welcome proposals for panels based on a theme. If proposing a panel, please have at least two existing papers to populate the panel; your panel idea once submitted will be open to others, and the workshop convenors reserve the right to add other papers if needed to streamline the programme.

Immediately following the conference, we are planning a day-long ‘Research to Publishing’ workshop comprising sessions on quantitative methods, qualitative methods, and writing for policy and academic audiences. It is intended for those who already have research ideas under development and wish to develop them further in a peer-to-peer environment. Places are limited so please indicate your interest.

To submit a paper to present, propose a panel, and register your interest in the ‘Research to Publishing’ workshop, please fill in the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/n4qAJKQ004eHk2YG2

The deadline for proposals is August 31st, after which the organisers will contact successful applicants. The selected presenters and panel chairs only will be offered support with travel and accommodation if coming from outside Abuja; however if you are interested in attending the event as a non-presenter and/or have independent support to do so you are welcome to contact the organisers at [email protected]
