We are currently seeking to recruit a Research Officer to contribute to existing and future research projects, and work along with ICTD’s Research Director, Dr Giulia Mascagni, to manage and support ICTD’s engagement with revenue authorities in Africa, particularly in Rwanda and Ethiopia. The Research Officer will support advisory work with the Rwanda Revenue Authority in the context of an existing Memorandum of Understanding and of the ongoing collaboration between RRA and ICTD on research and capacity building.

Applicants should have a good knowledge and understanding of current issues and debates in international development and taxation and a post graduate degree in economics or an econometrics-related field. Experience of undertaking research in a low-income country, using quantitative research methods, and the analysis of large datasets is essential.

The Research Officer will undertake a range of desk and field based research (in accordance with current safety policies related to COVID-19), including carrying out literature reviews and other background research activities. The existing projects relate to taxpayer education, tax compliance, gender and tax, the taxation of digital financial services, and the role of technology in supporting tax administration. All projects involve the analysis of large sets of data derived from surveys or tax administration records. Applicants should have excellent data analysis skills, including experience with large datasets and with STATA.

Salary: £26,464 to £39,528 per annum
Post Type: Full Time: 35 hours per week – please note that we are willing to consider both part-time and full-time candidates for this role (ie 20-35 hours per week)
Contract Type: Fixed Term (24 months)
