tax and inequality

Tax policy and administration has an important role to play in reducing inequality. This can be achieved through progressive income taxes, taxes on wealth (like inheritance and capital gains taxes), and the balance between progressive direct taxes and regressive indirect taxes. Tax policy is also crucial for raising revenue to finance public expenditures on transfers and public services and infrastructure that can spur growth and increase social equity.
